Java Developer

The best and the brightest developers always have a choice. Your time at Arctic Lake will put you ahead of the pack: you will skill-up quickly in highly relevant technologies while also having a real impact on our product, our growing team and processes, and on the tier 1 banks and financial institutions that you will work with. By the end of your first 3 months on the job, we expect that you will be making real contributions to the team, though you will still have a lot of guidance and input from your manager and other senior colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • coding, testing and deploying order management features
  • developing ultra-low latency exchange protocols
  • writing algorithmic and order routing logic
  • requirement analysis
  • prioritisation of features
  • additional duties as requested

About You

At Arctic Lake we are entering an exciting new phase of growth. In order to support that growth, we are looking for a rising star developer to join the team.

You have recently graduated with a Computer science degree and are available immediately or after a reasonable notice period. You probably have an excellent grasp of several programming languages, and you definitely have a drive to understand computing from first principles. You are self-motivated and enjoy working with others towards a common objective. When you know a better way, you voice your opinion. Building software is the means to an end—you want to change the way an entire industry operates. You are eager to learn and not afraid to ask for help.

You enjoy understanding customer business needs and opportunities and then translating them into specifications and code. You care deeply about best practices for code quality, automation, and testing. You value accountability, along with open and respectful communication.

We are looking for someone who will thrive in a fast paced startup environment, and who is excited by the opportunity to think outside the box and to make a real impact.

Company Summary

It is an exciting time to be a technology company in finance. Today, banks and financial institutions see the urgent need for better, more flexible, more comprehensive trading solutions than any of the off the shelf technologies available on the market. But (and it’s a big but) they can rarely build them in house. In addition to the many obstacles facing them internally (lack of specialised talent, red tape, legacy technologies, decision by committee), banks are fundamentally not technology companies, and they need state-of-the-art, ultra low latency, highly reliable systems – not an easy task.

That’s where we come in. At Arctic Lake, we build smart trading businesses. From network infrastructure and exchange gateways to execution algorithms, risk, and user interface, we build and manage the entire platform for our clients, focusing on electronic trading and execution.

We run a highly sophisticated, secure, and complex technology stack with a small team. This means that our technology is extraordinarily robust, and that day to day you will have the opportunity to learn new skills in a wide range of areas and work directly with clients. Your work will make an impact in production systems used by major banks and financial institutions. As part of our team, you will get to work with state-of-the-art hardware and infrastructure, building and supporting one of the fastest electronic trading platforms in the industry.
